The importance of User point of View

How can we understand the possible solutions to their problems?

The perspective of a potential user trying to find the best app for their needs may be incredibly tricky to figure out and understand. There are so many apps that solve so many different problems for users across the world and a user looking for a certain app should certainly evaluate all competitor apps to their top option.

Reading the reviews of several apps that I tested in this user point of view experiment showed me that it is hard to find an app for the photo editing and retouching community that checks every box. I looked at the issue of finding the best app for editing photos in a professional and casual sense and what users have to say about three of the possible options. Understanding what these apps do and how useful they can be for certain users was at top of mind to me while also finding how highly rated they are across the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

It was hard to understand what could be going through the heads of the people who were writing these reviews and whether they really explored all their options and all the features the apps have to offer. I looked at Evoto, Lightroom and Topaz, all apps that engage in photo editing and retouching and all use AI in some sort of way to enhance photos or enhance the user experience of the app. It was hard to find positive comments and reviews for Topaz as many users did not like it and on the other side, it was harder to find negative reviews for Evoto and Lightroom as many users love those apps.

I was able to find many suggestive comments and reviews which did help my overall understanding of how users may have problems when it comes to these apps. Understanding that and their suggestions for improvements to the apps was very helpful in writing my point of view statements for these users and apps. Without these suggestions it would have been very hard to formulate these statements and other ideas that I still have around these apps and this user community.
